A company called Axiom Space is planning to build the first space hotel. This will be accomplished by starting as an attachment to the International Space Station (ISS) and then becoming the first fully commercial space station when the ISS retires. ISS is expected to retire in approximately 2028. The commercial space station is being built to a more luxurious standard than the ISS to accommodate paying guests. The decor of the AxStation will be designed by a noted interior designer, Phillippe Stacke.
- Axiom Space is a Houston-based company that is planning to implement a space hotel in the near future.
- Axiom Space plans to make use of the International Space Station or ISS to build the space hotel and then detach when the current ISS retires.
- The space hotel would serve as a tourism destination and also a research facility. The plan would be for the hotel to be more luxurious than current space travel.
“The plan is to attach a crew module to the International Space Station by 2024 and then expand from there to create at least two other modules, including a laboratory/manufacturing facility and a panoramic observatory.”
